Interview with Mick Roberts, CEO,

Snowy Mountains Laundry and Linen Hire

Q: How long has the laundry been in business?

Mick Roberts: The laundry has been in operation for approximately 17 years. My wife and I purchased the laundry just over 12 years ago to service existing customers, plus our housekeeping operation which managed a large portfolio of holiday accommodation enterprises. Since purchase we've expanded considerably.

Q: What sort of work do you do?

Mick Roberts: We now only focus on linen hire for accommodation. We do a very limited amount of customer owned goods, for customers who use the majority of our linen.

Q: What drives your team each day?

Mick Roberts: We pride ourselves on creating a safe, inclusive and fun workspace for our staff. We have numerous social events throughout the year, both formal and informal. Our aim is to have staff who look forward to coming to work every day.

This promotes a sense of ownership by our staff, to pursue our core values of quality, service and reliability.

Q: What does the next year – five years look like for the laundry? Expansion plans?

Mick Roberts: Expansion for us has almost always been organic. Our greatest source of growth is through word of mouth, and this is ongoing.

Over the next 5 years we aim to automate to a much higher level and we are planning the 100% ‘greening’ of our operations.

Q: How long have you been a member of the LAA?

Mick Roberts: I think I’ve been with the LAA for about 5 years.

Q: Have you been to the Conference or participated in any webinars?

Mick Roberts: I have not been to any of the conferences, however, I plan to change this for 2026, which I will be attending. I have not participated in any of the webinars live but have watched some after the event.

Q: What would you like from the LAA in the next 12 months?

Mick Roberts: I think some type of forum for smaller operators would be a great thing.

I have been contacted a number of times by suppliers, directing other laundry operators towards me for advice on various aspects of laundry operation.
